Our shop @ Rorke's Drift:
|Rorke's Drift is more than a famous battlefield - it's a unique and successful venture in cross-culture art and craft production.
The ELC Art and Craft Centre, or simply Rorke's Drift as it is best known, works under the umbrella of the Lutheran Church of South Africa (ELCSA) and is registered as a PBO (Public Benefit Organisation, PBO 930025276) and NPO (Non Profit Organisation 076-446NPO).
The Art & Craft Centre was established in 1962 by Swedish artists Ulla and Peder Gowenius, who were employed by the Church of Swedish Mission. A Fine Art School was included in the activities and during its 20 years of existence many students from all over of Southern Africa have attended of which many have won national and international acclaim.
Rorke's Drift has been the home of worlds famous artists like John Muafangejo, Azaria Mbatha, Bongi Dlomo, Pat Mautla and others and today we are proud to have such recognised artists and crafters like the weavers Philda Majozi, Emma Dammann, in the ceramic studio like Gordon Mbatha, Joel Sibisi, Elizabeth Mbatha.
Rorke's Drift is not only recognised for the very famous names of different artists and crafters.
Today advanced artists and crafters work in all studios, they share their ideas and work together on different art projects.
The artists and crafters look forward for a new generation which can continue with the tradition of the ELC Art & Craft Centre in Rorke's Drift.

our Centre is located in a beautiful area in the middle of KwaZulu Natal next to the Anglo-Zulu-War battle field from 1879 and 45km near Dundee.
The centre with its studios, shop and guest houses is located on a farm which had been the largest Swedish mission station in Southern Africa until late 1950's.
